Overview

Steering gear assembly Toyota 4551048080 converts rotational steering column input into lateral displacement of the front steering knuckles. The hydraulic rack assembly features a die-cast aluminium housing, a 26 mm diameter induction-hardened steel rack shaft, a rotary control valve, inner tie rod assemblies, and protective rubber bellows. Hydraulic inlet and outlet ports feature M12x1.0 and M14x1.5 thread specifications. Housing mounting bushing center distance measures 640 mm, with a total rack shaft length of 1150 mm. OEM cross-reference part numbers include 45510-48010, 45510-48030, and 45510-48040. The complete assembly comes supplied with factory-installed oil seals, Teflon guide bushings, and inner ball joints.

Fitment includes Lexus RX300, RX330, RX350, and RX400h XU30 chassis models manufactured between 2003 and 2008, as well as Toyota Highlander MCU28 and GSU35 models from 2003 to 2007 equipped with 2.4L, 3.3L, and 3.5L engines. Replacement of the steering rack assembly is required when knocking noises develop over bumps, hydraulic fluid leaks from the end seals, or excessive free play exceeds 10 degrees at the steering wheel. Heavy steering effort in one direction, torn rubber gaiters leading to internal rack bar corrosion, or mechanical wear of the pinion teeth also necessitate component replacement.
